Butterflies in My Stomach

Preface: In short, Revelation reveals what we have been looking at all quarter: that the Lord alone, our Creator, our Redeemer, our Judge--is worthy of our trust, worship, and praise.

Every time I think about the prophecies in Daniel and Revelation, a catastrophic picture comes to mind. “There will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven” (Luke 21:11, NKJV). This gives me butterflies in my stomach.

I know that Jesus is coming soon because the signs mentioned above have already occurred. Thinking about the soon return of Jesus makes me anxious and tense because I am not sure of my salvation because I sometimes do not have a close relationship with God.

Since “the great day of the Lord is near; it is near and hastens quickly” (Zeph. 1:14, NKJV)—we should instead “look up and lift up [our] heads, because your redemption draws near” (Luke 21:28, NKJV).

We should not be getting those butterflies in our stomachs; we should be ecstatic with the idea that Jesus is coming soon—very soon. We should have confidence that our God will help us to stand up to the coming persecution. We should take comfort in the fact that we can persevere in doing God’s will.

My feeling is that we will be richly rewarded.
